The Rotary Club of Waipukurau was chartered in 1943.

The club is involved in, and a strong supporter of a range of activities:

  • Major support and financial sponsor for significant community assets.  For example, A.W. Parsons Indoor Swimming Pool, Stadium and Gym, CHB Municipal Theatre and recently the Sports Turf Complex.
  • A huge investment in money, time and manpower for two key community assets.
  • The Arboretum (Forest of Memories) is an area of land on Pukeora Scenic Road where local people can remember their loved ones.  First planted in 1993, there are now nearly 1000 trees wrapped around walking tracks. http://www.forestofmemories.co.nz/

  • The Tuki Tuki Trail along the river bank was planned, constructed and maintained by the Rotary Pathways Trust - it is a network of trails for walkers and bikers, situated in Central Hawkes Bay between the townships of Waipukurau & Waipawa. It also includes the mountain bike trails at the Gum Tree Park. Fully supported by the club. https://www.tukitukitrail.com/

  • We sponsor a Young Employee of the Year award for locals under 25.  There is a cash prize and/or the opportunity to attend courses such as RYPEN, RYLA, and Outward Bound.
  • Community activities such as the Best Street Award and Courtesy Shield for business.
  • Providing funds to a range of charities, and help local charities collect funds.
  • Youth exchanges, involving both outgoing and incoming secondary school students.
  • We enjoy the camaraderie and seek out speakers who share experiences, knowledge and opinions on current affairs.
  • Visitors and prospective members are always welcome.

The club is a strong supporter of the Rotary Foundation and particularly Rotary’s Polio eradication programme.  Over half the club members are Paul Harris Fellows – an honour awarded by the club in recognition of community service.
