The Rotary Foundation grant structure enables Rotarians to change people’s lives, make the world a better place, and help meet the priorities and goals of Rotary’s strategic plan.  The structure is based on two types of grants,  DISTRICT GRANTS  and GLOBAL GRANTS

District Grants
A District Grant is an annual block grant that the receives  from The Rotary Foundation which it disburses to clubs in the district.  District grants are used to address smaller and more immediate needs in local communities and abroad . Clubs apply directly to the District Foundation Committee.  Grant criteria and awards are handled by the district.  Applications for District Grants are received

A comprehensive Guide to District Grants can be viewed (and downloaded from this site.  The guide addresses every aspect of creating a project and applying for District Grant.

The "Guide to District Grants" is an interactive document, which means that you open links to forms, documents, and other resources by simply clicking on the links indicated in BLUE within the guide.   But keep in mind, to use this feature you must view the guide on a computer of tablet.

To download just click on the image or CLICK HERE:   "Guide to District Grants"

Note:  A print version of the guide is available.  It is the same as the interactive version above, however the intensive use of colour has been removed to save your printer's ink or toner.

District Grant Forms:  All forms for application and management of a District Grant can be found in the "Foundation Forms and Downloads" area of this website

Global Grants
Global Grants offer clubs and districts the opportunity to participate in strategically focused, high-impact, activities within the six areas of focus established by The Rotary Foundation.  The minimum total budget for a global grant project is US$30,000.  Clubs apply directly to The Rotary Foundation.  Global Grant projects a done in partnership with at least one other Rotary club or district in another country.  Applications can be submitted at any time during the year and grant awards are made throughout the year.

A comprehensive guide to Global Grants is also available on the Rotary International website.   By going to this area of the RI website you will also be in the work area for applying and managing a Global Grants.  It's good to become familiar with this area of the RI website.  Just click on the image below.

The district is responsible for conducting Global Grant Training Seminars which qualify clubs to apply for a Global Grant.  However, the district does not handle applications for Global Grants or oversee the management of the grants.  A comprehensive guide to Global Grants is available on the Rotary International Website.   As all matters related to Global Grants are handled directly by The Rotary Foundation, you will need to manage a grant application through the Rotary International website.

Other Rotary Funding for International Projects

Assistance to carry our international projects can also be provided by Rotary New Zealand World Community Service (RNZWCS).  It may be possible to access funds through the New Zealand Aid Programme (NZAP) for projects meeting strict criteria relating to development and capacity building as distinct from welfare. Applications for NZAP grants must be made through RNZWCS Ltd. The application process for these grants can be quite complex and clubs are encouraged to seek advice as early as possible.
