Ross has been a member of the Taradale Rotary Club on 3 occasions.  Firstly in 1984 – through to 1986, when he transferred to New Plymouth North, then back to Taradale in 1991, then on to Bangkok South, Thailand in 1998, then to Dunedin South in 2004, before returning to Taradale Club in 2010.  He has held Board positions in each of the Clubs with the exception of Bangkok South.
 
He has held the role within District 9930 of Youth Protection Officer since 2013.  He is a graduate of the Rotary Learning & Information programme.
He was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship by the Taradale Club in 2012 for services to Rotary, the New Zealand Police and to the community.  As Convenor of the 2016 District Conference in 2016 awarded a Sapphire pin.  Through Ross’ contributions to the Rotary Foundation, he received a double Sapphire pin in 2017.
Ross had a distinguished career (for 43 years) with the New Zealand Police holding the rank of Detective Inspector for 21 years.  He has been involved in many high profile criminal investigations and has been awarded the Queen’s Police Medal (QPM) for his investigation of homicide and serious crime.  Ross was seconded to the NZ Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand as the Police Attaché for 5 years covering the majority of Asian countries.  In 2002 he was involved in the investigations into the Bali bombing.
 
Ross attended Hastings Boys High School and is a current Trustee on the Old Boys’ Association.  He also is a Trustee for the Taradale Rotary Club Charity Trust, the Camp Kaitawa Trust also as Secretary and the Napier Rotary Pathways Trust.
 
Ross is married to Vivienne.  She is a teacher involved in many facets of the education area.  They had 3 adult children and 5 granddaughters.  Their son Hamish is the Founding Director of the Gisborne music festival Rhythm & Vines.  Rotarians are most welcome to attend the festival each year!!!
