John welcomed the members of the Ohope Lions club who had joined us for a combined meeting.
Mark gave an excellent presentation to our guests covering the history of Rotary, the Four-Way Test, Polio Plus and Rotary’s international programmes.
He then talked about District 9930 before moving on to our club’s structure, projects (past and present) and focus on youth and the environment.  Nice work, Mark!  You told our story well.
Allen Winter then returned the compliment with his presentation of what Ohope Lions are about.
They meet on the first Monday of every month for committee meetings and on the third Wednesday for a dinner/business meeting.  They also run a garage sale on the last Sunday of every month.  This is a project which takes ongoing effort through the month by some members than a big effort on garage sale weekend.  Over almost three decades they have raised and distributed $500,00 in the Eastern Bay.  Some of the projects or causes which have received funds include:
❖ the flying fox at the Maraetotara Reserve
❖ purchased Lisa Carrington her first training kayak
❖ the first response van and jaws of life for the Ohope Fire Brigade ❖ several defibrillators located around the community
❖ the first aid room at the Ohope Surf Lifesaving Club
❖ various resources fro Hospice including an oxygen concentrator
❖ the outdoor seating area at the Ohope Golf Club
❖ international disaster relief
❖ funding individuals with opportunities to develop  leadership
❖ eyesight and diabetes treatment in the third world ❖ equipment for local sports clubs
Other initiatives the club is involved with include:
➢ Daffodil Day collections
➢ the Garden of remembrance at he TECT complex
➢ supporting Blue Light
➢ coffee mornings for the elderly every Monday morning at The Quay
