Guest Speaker Kylie Brewer, introduced by Eoin Fitzpatrick.

Kylie spoke about her experience on the Trek for Life that she attended in March of this year. This trek is for 1 week and participants can walk, cycle or ride horses.

The trek is through beachlands and farmlands and relies on the generosity of farmers. It’s a week of fun and friendship with no time pressures, trekking about 25-40 kms a day. They create a little village that has all mod-cons like portable toilets and showers, a catering tent complete with caterers, a coffee cart and a bar
The trek route is marked by pink markers on gates and posts, everyone is accounted for so that no one gets lost, and there’s a group of first-aiders and a shuttle bus available should anyone have any health issues.

This year there were 160 horses, 30 cyclists and 30 walkers. They spent three days travelling on the beaches and three through farmland, forestry and lakes, with a rest day in the middle. Kevin Forgeson, Aaron Carthew, Vic Richards, Sue Richards Vic, well deserved!! On the Tuesday night there’s a social night and this year a couple celebrated by getting married, one of the participants on the Trek was a Celebrant.

On the last night they had a themed party (this year was Pirates) and an auction, the proceeds of which, along with the entry fee, are donated to First Response Services in the community area the Trek is held in. This year they raised $26,000. The next stage of the Trek will be held in March 12th - 20th 2022.

That will bring up Kylie’s third Trek and she tells us she definitely will be attending
