Jude Wilson presented Angus Coulter (Mike Shepherd’s grandson) with a cheque for $1,500 from the club Youth Achievement Fund to attend the World Golf Croquet Championships U21 in Melbourne (February 2017).

Angus has an impressive list of croquet achievements to his credit, including the 2016 NZ Most Improved Golf Croquet Player of the Year.

Karen Gow explained that the Youth Achievement Fund was set up just after 2011. It is funded by $20,000 from the Plenty cookery book fund and the amount was matched by an anonymous Whakatane donor.

The fund is to assist young people to achieve their dreams and potential in no set field, i.e. arts are as important as sports. $10, 000 has been given away every year; therefore the project is coming to an end. Numerous young individuals have been helped over the years with some deserving cases being assisted more than once.
