We hope that you and your whānau are managing to stay safe and well.

Over recent weeks, many of us have had to re-adapt to working and studying online.

That's why, this month, we thought we'd share the above photo - which shows our remote training in action. Last year, when Covid-19 made it impossible to travel abroad, we had to rethink our entire approach to how we conduct training overseas.

Here, you can see Lucy and Flora, from ShelterBox HQ, as they run through different techniques of how to use the items within our ShelterKit, with one of our in-field partners - Help (Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe). The Help team will then use their new skills to support displaced families in Burkina Faso.

These items make all the difference to families who have lost everything. But, we couldn't do it without you. Thank you for supporting our mission, and making our mahi possible.

Read on to learn more about where else we are providing aid, read stories from some of our inspirational supporters, and discover how you can help families find hope for a brighter future.

Ngā manaakitanga,
The ShelterBox New Zealand team.

Our Aid has Landed in Haiti

After a magnitude 7.2 earthquake devastated Haiti last month, families were faced with an impossible choice - sheltering in their damaged homes, or staying in overcrowded evacuation centres.

We are responding - and this week, our aid arrived safely in Haiti.

In partnership with Rotary, we'll be working to distribute ShelterKits, thermal blankets, solar lights, kitchen sets, sleeping mats, mosquito nets, and water carriers, to displaced families, so they can begin rebuilding their lives.

This is the first time a Response Team has deployed in 18 months, since international travel restrictions were introduced in 2020 - and at the moment, our team is conducting field visits to the affected areas.

See the video below to hear from ShelterBox's Response Team Member, Dave, as he details how ShelterBox is collaborating with the Rotary Caribbean Disaster Response Committee.

This response is only possible thanks to our supporters - thank you. If you have capacity to give, any support for our emergency Haiti response is appreciated. Your generosity will go on to restock our warehouses and provide vulnerable families with emergency shelter and household items.

Transforming despair into hope, around the globe

At present, we are also providing aid in:
- Mozambique (where conflict is driving one of the world’s fastest-growing displacement crises)
- Syria (with our partner ReliefAid, we've provided families with tarpaulins and rope to reinforce their tents - helping people to socially distance, as Covid-19 reaches emergency levels)
- Lake Chad Basin (we've just finished distributions of 2, 000 SheterKits to internally displaced families)
- Ethiopia (we’re supporting families who’ve fled their homes due to escalating conflict)
- Burkina Faso (our aid is currently en route, ready to support those who are fleeing due to conflict)

An Update on 24 Hours of Lemons, for ShelterBox

Having seen first-hand the transformational difference that our aid makes, ShelterBox New Zealand Board Member, Guy Cassidy, is on a mission to make a difference to the world’s most vulnerable ...

And, he's doing so by spending 24 continuous hours racing around Hampton Downs in a ShelterBox-green car, with four close friends.

However, due to lockdown restrictions, the race has now been postponed to October 21st - 22nd

Although the date has changed, Guy's ambition remains the same - in fact, he has an impressive fundraising goal of $20, 000!

He's raised over $16, 000 so far - and would be grateful for any support to help him reach the target - and transform the lives of families around the globe, in doing so.
