New Zealand was hit by a 7.5 magnitude earthquake at 12.02 am on 14 November 2016. Fortunately, major damage to communities was limited in the main to the South Island town of Kaikoura and surrounding districts.

Kaikoura, a coastal tourist town is situated 180 kms north of Christchurch and has a population of approx. 2000.

Following inquiries from within New Zealand and overseas an Appeal has been set up

District 9930 has a fund available which can be deployed immediately and this will be done. However, we now ask that clubs make donations as they see fit to the District Disaster Fund to replenish the depleted funds.

This is an awful situation and a reminder of just how fragile our infrastructure can be. While we're helping our neighbors this time around, we never know when it may be us requiring that special help.
