Deborah Chambers, our Cycle Challenge manager, delivered an honest and sobering report on our iconic event.Rotary needs to make the public at large aware of our ownership of this event as well as the funds that it provides to the volunteer groups that take part. In addition, any profit enables us to make significant donations to local causes.
In 2009 there were 11,000 cyclists taking part. Last year we were down to 5152 participants and this is despite the fact that last year’s event was the best organised ever.
This year’s event will be two weeks earlier than usual on the 14th of November, and of course, Holden will no longer be a major sponsor giving us additional challenges.
