Our Science Forum Student this year was Bernadette Dykes, a student at Napier Girls who gave a 5-minute talk about her trip to the University of Auckland during her school holidays earlier this year.

Her friends thought she was crazy for spending her holidays by attending two 3-hour lectures each day, but she loved it.

She saw Nanogirl and learned a great deal about her favourite subject, Chemistry, such as the purification of jellyfish fluorescent proteins.

Her plans are to return to the University of Auckland and graduate in Biomedical Sciences with the intention of attending medical school afterwards.
Bernadette was accompanied by her grandfather and fellow Rotarian, Jim Hawkless. Ella Philp, also from Napier Girls, has been chosen as our sponsored applicant for the Annual Rotary Science & Technology Forum for 2021, following approval received this week from the district organisers.

Ella will attend the University of Auckland event next year and present to the club about her experiences at the Forum
