2020 Polio Movie Event On
A special preview screening of the movie “I Am Woman”, about the life story of Australian singer Helen Reddy was screened at 7.00 pm on Tuesday 20th October at the Reading Cinema in Napier.Over 200 attended this Premier and from what everyone said it was a wonderful film indeed.
Helen Reddy sadly died that week at the age of 78 at her home in Los Angeles after a long battle with dementia. This film is a fitting tribute to the star who did so much for women’s rights. All proceeds went to Polio Now through the Rotary Foundation.
The Rotary Club of Ahuriri was coordinating the event on behalf of all Rotary Clubs in Hawkes Bay.
Over $3,000 was forward to District for the elimination of Polio. With the $2 for $1 offer by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, it meant that over $9,000 was raised for this worthy cause.
