Chris presided the meeting and welcomed Keren Johnston, a Public Health Nurse, Peter & Sharon Crean, their daughter and Mary an East African Girls Project leader.
Keren Johnston showed the club the sturdy compliant and washable baby car seat that our club has donated to the Public Health Nursing Centre in Morrinsville.
She thanked us for this very valuable asset, which will be used to transport new-born babies to 4-year-olds, who need assistance to attend appointments at the Medical Centres and the Hospital in Hamilton.
We have placed a Morrinsville Rotary sticker on the seat, which will be good advertising for the club.

Beyond Water. Global is a charitable organization bringing clean water and sanitization solutions to communities across East Africa. It was lovely to welcome the team back to Morrinsville again. They have been in NZ and Australia to raise funds and awareness about their work.
The Crean family then shared with us the excellent work they do in providing running water, toileting, and hand washing facilities to schools, remote communities and medical facilities throughout Kenya and the wider East African countries. Working out of Nairobi, the planning and construction team frequently have to travel long distances to reach the schools and undertake the necessary work to give girls and boys students access to sanitary water facilities. They put in water bores, tanks and guttering, toilet showering and taps so water can be collected and stored. And used daily. This negates the need for the young people to walk many miles to the only water supply, a river or water hole.
Alongside that they provide education on hygiene, sanitation, pump and water management and maintenance.
Often providing water for a hospital then means water can be piped to neighboring schools providing water for the community and the children in the area. Mary, who is a leader in the “The Girl Project “shared stories of the changes the Programme makes for girls. Providing sanitary products and even simple things like soap, underwear, toothpaste, and toothbrushes. Coupled with leadership development career counseling and mentoring skills inspire girls to remain at school and achieve their educational and employment goals.
