Rotary Zone 7B Symposium 2017 – July Newsletter
Hi Max

This is our final newsletter before Symposium which is less than two weeks away.

As you will be aware from previous newsletters, Symposium is open to all Rotarians  so please spread the word and invite your Rotarian colleagues to attend. As well as the full weekend Symposium, there is the option for Future Leaders to attend just the Saturday programme (more information below) and for more locally based Rotarians, an option to come along  for the opening session on Friday night.

Registration for both the Governors Institute and the Future Leaders Forum can be completed on the Rotary Zone 7B Symposium website.  Registration for the Friday night session is through Rotary clubs.

A reminder for 2017-18 DGs, DGsE and DGsN - you and your partners have been registered for your pre-institute training and the Symposium and your accommodation has been reserved. No further action is required of you.
Last Call
There are now just ten days until 2017 Zone 7B Symposium.  To those who have already registered, the committee know you will enjoy being part of a great Rotary weekend – please encourage other Rotarians to be part of it too.

To those who are still thinking about attending, now is the time to act - REGISTER NOW. This is a great opportunity to be part of The Future of Rotary and to enjoy listening to and interacting with a diverse range of speakers:
  • Friday evening includes Rotary International General Secretary John Hewko, and Deborah Lambie who amongst other achievements was Miss New Zealand in 2015
  • Saturday morning is especially built around future leaders with a range of top speakers from civic, community and business circles
  • Saturday afternoon is your chance to interact with leaders from Rotary International as we examine the direction and future of Rotary. A session led by Peter Kyle from Washington will look at the increasing importance of building peace and managing conflict in our turbulent world and the place Rotary can play
  • The highlight of Sunday morning is Ray Davies, head coach of the victorious Team NZ at the Americas Cup.
We hope you can join us for the whole weekend, but if you can’t commit to that, please consider the Saturday only option – either way, we look forward to seeing you at Waipuna.

PS – for your Rotary friends within driving distance of the Waipuna, there is an option to attend the opening session on Friday evening – see below for further details.

Best regards,
Alan Eyes
2011-12 Governor District 9920
Chair, Zone 7B 2017 Institute Committee

Rotarians, partners and friends are invited to attend the opening session of the Symposium on Friday night. The high calibre key note speakers for the Friday evening session are John Hewko, General Secretary of Rotary International, and Deborah Lambie, co-founder of LearnCoach NZ, a medical doctor, and Miss New Zealand 2015.

The cost is $20 per person. Registration is through your own club - Presidents and Secretaries of clubs within driving distance have further information. Those attending will be required to be seated by 6.45pm, and it is anticipated that the evening will conclude just after 9pm.  There is plenty of free parking at the Waipuna Hotel and Conference Centre venue.

Thank you very much Avalon Waterways

Events like this cannot happen without the generous support of sponsors.  Avalon Waterways have been a wonderful supporter of Rotary district conferences and other Rotary events for many years and we are thrilled that they have come on board as a sponsor of the Symposium.

Future Leaders Forum

The Future Leaders Forum runs on Saturday from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm as part of the Zone 7B Symposium programme.

The Future Leaders Forum is presented in collaboration with Leadership New Zealand and there is a fantastic line up of speakers. Past Governor Peter Garnett, (D9910 2015-16) is Chair of Leadership New Zealand, and a champion of its vision of “Enriching New Zealand through active leadership in a connected community”. Peter has been instrumental in putting together the programme - he says that "it has been exciting and rewarding to collaborate with Rotary NZ in organising this year’s Future Leaders Forum.  I am confident Rotarians attending will enjoy and benefit from the range of excellent speakers and activities we have arranged."

A "Saturday Only" registration enables Rotarians to attend the Future Leaders Forum in the morning and the Saturday afternoon symposium sessions.  A programme outline can be found on the Future Leaders Forum page on the Symposium website.

Home hosting is available with Rotarians living in the  eastern suburbs of Auckland. Contact Sue Fairbairn (Rotary Club of Somerville) sue115@xtra.co.nz for details.

RI Director Noel Trevaskis and the Zone 7B Rotary Symposium Committee look forward to seeing you in September.
