Since 1977 the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge has been held annually in Taupo and is set this year for November 25th. This event is owned by and operated by the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge Trust which was established by Rotary in 1994 and assisted by Lake Taupo Rotary volunteers. Funds raised are distributed to various Charities.

A Rotary Cup is among the list of awards to be won and is of course up for grabs again this year. Rotary teams are invited to enter the Cycle Challenge event and participate in competing for this Trophy.

This award is presented to the Rotary group that rides the greatest combined distance. Therefore a larger group doing a shorter distance could have as much chance of winning as a smaller group who take on the longer course options.
The well-deserved recipient Club/members will receive bragging rights for their group and will get a certificate to take away with them.
The Cup was donated by Kapiti Rotary in 2003 and has been awarded within District 9930 at five separate events. After going unclaimed for two years the cup was located and brought back to Taupo for a winning opportunity in 2022.

Whakatane Rotary have been competing for the prestigious cup over the last 18 years and with great pride took the cup home last year.
A message from Team Captain Scotty McLeod “we won’t be giving up the trophy without a fight”.
