Senri in the News  In the last few weeks, Sydney Childrens Hospital's Media Unit facilitated Daily Telegraph interviews with Senri, Dr Sarah Tolerton and ROMAC D9620 Chair Ros Kelly. The journalists were all stunned at what has happened to Senri, amazed with the help of ROMAC and Dr Sarah and the Hospital
Seven News also aired an item on Brisbane's news channel and also wants to do a follow up when we are due to send Senri home.

Finova
 Finova was a 21-month-old girl from Timor-Leste who was brought to Australia for life-saving surgery in 2012 by Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC). She had a long-standing choledochal cyst, a benign liver tumour that may swell and block the bile duct, which could not be treated in her own country. She and her mother Rita are featured in our banner photo at the top of this newsletter.
Finova arrived at Canberra Hospital in a critical condition, in the care of Associate Prof. David Croaker. She was transferred by helicopter to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead where she had her abdominal cyst drained. Once her condition stabilised, she returned to Canberra Hospital for a period of oral and supplementary feeding to treat her malnutrition before corrective surgery to remove the cyst. Her surgery went well and after a slow recovery, she returned home to Timor-Leste.
Finova is now 12 years old and has two little brothers. She is pictured here dressed in her traditional Timor clothing. |

District 9930 in New Zealand donates $4000 to ROMAC
 During COVID lock downs in 2020-21, Glenys Parton from D9930 created a quilt titled “Mending
Hearts” and donated it to Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC) to raffle. With the
continued disruption of COVID, the sale of the tickets was extended into the 2022-23 Rotary year.
Tickets were largely distributed and promoted by Glenys in D9930 and by Sue Smith, the partner of
the District Governor of 9920.
The raffle closed on 30 June 2023 and was drawn under JP supervision on 2 July. David Cotter of Tauranga held winning ticket 741, sold to him by Steve Dorrington of Tauranga Sunrise Rotary. Thank you Steve.
Thank you to all who purchased tickets for this raffle over the years. Your contribution to ROMAC has supported Rotary’s work to improve the health and well-being of the children of the Rotary Zone 8 region by facilitating “medical aid for children in the form of life saving and/or dignity restoring surgery, not accessible to them in their home country”. Doing good in our own backyard.
