Where has this year gone – it seems only a few weeks ago that we were welcoming in the New Year –
and here we are just over 3 weeks to Christmas 2019. So, let me wish you all
A VERY HAPPY AND PEACEFUL CHRISTMAS AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.
December in the Rotary Calendar is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month.
This is very appropriate at this time – when we hear about the measles outbreak in the Pacific Islands – especially in Samoa. Can I please ask everyone to consider supporting Rotary New Zealand World Community Service’s Appeal. Further details can be found in this newsletter.
Last month I asked you all to think about helping support the Australian Bush Fire support program being run by District 9650. I am encouraged by the support that this appeal has received. Approximately $6000 has been received to date with further donations being received daily. Thank you to everyone who has responded to this appeal.
There have been one or two landmarks this month –
- Bill McMillian of Cambridge Rotary Club needs to be congratulated on his 50th Anniversary of being a Rotarian
- Roy Clement from Ahuriri Rotary Club who is stepping down from running their Reading Program in Schools after 23 years
- Many thanks to Mel Hopkins who is stepping down as treasurer of Rotary Youth Leadership Awards after many years.
- PDG Fergus Cumming who is stepping down as District 9930 representative on the RozOps board.
Thank you to all of you for your hard work and dedication. Real examples of Service above Self.
Colin Oleson will be taking over from Fergus as our District representative on the RozOps Board. Thank you, Colin, for agreeing to do this.
Finally, registrations for our District Conference over the weekend of 23rd May 2020 in Rotorua will be opening very soon. We have been delayed by technical issues around creating an online payment system. We think we are about there – so watch this space!!
Following on from our District Conference is the World Convention in Hawaii in June. So far 49 Rotarians and Partners from our District have registered – are you going to be the 50?
Mary and I hope that you all have a great Christmas and New Year.
Kind regards
Peter Maxwell
