Kia ora,

2021 is well and truly underway - I hope you had a wonderful summer break and an inspired start to the new year!

A new year always represents a wonderful opportunity to look back on the year that was - and we are very pleased to report that, in the unprecedented year that was 2020, despite the global challenges, ShelterBox provided aid to nearly 40, 000 families (which is almost 200, 000 people) in 11 countries.

It is the stories and powerful words of people like Alejandro, that really capture the essence of this work. After his family home in the Philippines was destroyed by Typhoon Vongfong, Alejandro received a ShelterKit, to help with rebuilding and repairing - [when I collected the aid items] "I had a good and nice feeling. Now we will be protected from the rain and sun. We can eat around the table now, rain or shine. I can concentrate with work, not worrying about the security and comfort of my family. Our daughter is smiling more often now, because according to her, we have a new house".

Kind regards,

Looking Back and Looking Forward

Despite the challenges 2020 presented, thanks to your incredible genersity and support, we were able to provide so many families, just like Alejandro's with hope for the future, and a place to call home.

However, with 104 million people displaced worldwide (more than any other time in recorded history), the need for the work of ShelterBox has never been greater.

So, we invite you to join us, as we look back on what started as a simple idea - a single green box containing emergency shelter, and reflect on some of the most historic moments, that have shaped our global movement.

Even more so, we ask you to consider the year that lies ahead, and how you will help us to shape 2021.

This year, you can help families find hope in their darkest hours.

There are so many ways you can help vulnerable families worldwide, throughout 2021:

1. Raise awareness amongst your community: follow us on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, and share our content amongst your friends and family.

Or, we can bring the story of ShelterBox to life, by delivering presentations, whether virtually or in person, about our work, at your next event, meeting or gathering.

2. Fundraising: why not rally your friends or whanau, and host a unique fundraiser for ShelterBox?

The sky is the limit - whether you're into marathon running, cake-baking, or dinner parties, we'd love to have you transform a fun event into fun for ShelterBox. In the past, we've seen people selling their artwork, running marathons, and selling books for us.

You could even get behind our Shine for ShelterBox campaign, by hosting a candlelit dinner or supper together, to help families overseas find light in their darkest hours.

3. Donating: for as little as $20, you can help us stock our ShelterBoxes with essential aid items, and provide a family with hope for a brighter future.
