On August 8th, our Club Kihikihi Rotary had the pleasure of hosting our DG Leonie Tisch.

She gave a very good update on Rotary events and the projects initiated by Ian Riseley, including the Environment  Category.

That night we had a special dinner with many guests to present a Paul Harris Fellowship Award to Peter & Carol Fraser from Growing Spectrum Kihikihi, who over 40 years have done wonderful voluntary work in Kihikihi Township gardens, parks & school as have the Frasers three sons.

The guests included the Deputy Mayor Graeme Webber Headmaster of Kihikihi School and another teacher, the Head Teacher of Kihikihi Kindergarten, the leader of CommSafe a neighbourhood support group, and the Kihikihi Space Centre manager.

Cameron, one of the sons, had a nursery nearby and after hearing about planting trees for each member, he donated 18 trees to our club to give out in the community.

We already have good relationships with six of the local country Primary Schools through donating potatoes and buckets to them over the years for the annual Potato in a bucket competition, and also donating dictionaries.

So my husband Ross and I picked up the 18 tree's from Cameron Frasers nursery 'Advanced Tree's', they were mainly the flowering sorts and delivered them to five of these schools. The caretakers and teachers were very pleased to receive them.

Regards,

Carol Turner.
