Blue Light --- Training for Youth for Leadership ---

Marjean introduced the team and thanked Rotary for the opportunity to come and speak.

Sidney then joined everyone together in a game around the table ---- a race with all passing the electric shock down the line. Then they told us about Blue Light and the partnership between the Police and the Armed Forces to assist young people to develop and mature and to get them off the streets.
It is a registered charity.

The goals of Blue Light are to:
• Reduce the incidence of young people becoming an offender or victims of crime.
• Encourage better relations between the Police, young people, their parents, and the community.

Blue Light aims to assist the Police to achieve its youth and community objectives by providing proactive initiatives to meet a key target market. It does this by providing young people with positive lifestyle alternatives and strategies to avoid becoming an offender or victim of crime, and the 3 focus areas are Leadership, Communication, and Teamwork. There is a week-long event at Taupo on Leadership which is led by the NZ Police to which they hope to send someone from Kawerau. There is a life skills camp for 14+ years kids run in the Army Spirit and it always has positive results. And there is a camp run by Blue Light in January for 11+ years President: Maria Puutu 0275 498382.
