Wow, where does the time go – a quarter of the Rotary year has disappeared already.

A special thank you this month, and always, to those Rotarians within the District who help out on District Committees.  This Newsletter for example of a Rotarian who spends many hours putting together interesting stories, publications of projects and links to Rotary stories from throughout the world.  Max Patmoy (Ahuriri) does an amazing job of gathering your stories together for the newsletter and also for the web page.  The www.rotary9930.org web page has many other stories and information about our District and Rotary projects.  Max is just one of many who serve on the District Committees.

My efforts to complete the Club visits by mid-November has taken a hit – with many of the Clubs not meeting Face to Face, which has had me resorting to Zoom meetings.  This past couple of weeks, however, has seen me visit Huntly, Morrinsville, along with Turangi, Lake Taupo, and the four Tauranga Clubs.  I’ve been impressed everywhere I’ve been, too, by the fellowship, enthusiasm, and coordination of many Club projects.  Of particular note has been the focus on International President Shekhar’s theme of ‘Serve to Change Lives”.  Yes, all the good work Rotarians good in your communities changes the lives of many, and as Shekhar reminds us – it changes our lives too - seeing the satisfaction and pleasure that recipients of our project efforts receive.

The focus of Health and Well-Being as a District theme has had many Clubs initiating projects, Club activities and bringing in speakers relating to the theme.  Many Rotarians have their own personal goals to focus on and the number of walking cycling and activity related groups has expanded.

The application for District Foundation grants has now closed and the Committee members working through those applications.  The Foundation meeting at the end of this month should be able to finalise those Clubs that receive grants.  A thank you to the Training Team, with Nick Dangerfield (Tauranga Te Papa) at the helm, who are putting together the training packages for the 2022/23 incoming Presidents.

October 24th sees the world focusing on the End Polio Now campaign.  Contributions through the year go towards the ongoing eradication of polio and many Clubs have organised their fundraising around the end of October to help the cause.

Has your Club got an event to focus on the End Polio Now day?

Michelle Tanner (Matamata) has sent out information to Assistance Governors and on to Club Presidents & Secretaries to assist them in coordinating an activity and put together media notifications and releases.

October is Economic & Community Development month.  Below is a guide to some of the things that you as an individual or Club could do.

1. Build the capacity of entrepreneurs, community leaders, local organizations, and community networks to support economic development in impoverished communities;
2. Develop opportunities for productive work;
3. Reduce poverty in under-served communities;
4. Support studies for career-minded professionals related to economic and community development.

Be safe out there in these Covdi-19 times; be responsible Rotarians and mindful of the plight of others – help them out where you can; take care of yourselves.  Keep up the contact with your fellow Club members who all appreciate the fellowship that Rotary provides.
