A new Rotary year has begun.

Today Sunday 1st July at the Hamilton Airport Lodge, Rotary District 9930 celebrated the 2017-2018 year of Rotary fun, fellowship and community service under the leadership of District Governor Leonie Tisch. With her husband Lindsay, they have visited all clubs throughout the year and the District Conference held at Wairakei, Taupo in May was a huge success. Every club in this district has made a difference to the communities in which they reside.

As my first official task when I was installed with the chains of office this afternoon, I was able to present Leonie with a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF)  (+4 Sapphire) and Lindsay with a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF)for all the  Rotary work they have done for this district. The Tuesday before, Leonie had received a PHF (+3 Sapphire)  from her own club Matamata, which shows the high regard and support they have for Leonie as the only District Governor from Matamata and the third woman to lead the district.

It is an absolute privilege to be your District Governor for 2018-19. Today, the Te Awamutu  Rotary Club lead by President Chris Kay, hosted a magnificent changeover function attended by 130 Rotarians.

Rotary International President 2018-19 Barry Rassin has given us all motivation and a challenge “To be the Inspiration” in what we are and what we do. He wants us to achieve what is good for our communities but making sure we are having fun and fellowship while we are raising the bar.

A special mention must be made as to  PDG Roger Miller’s contribution to Rotary which has been immense and he rightfully received a standing ovation.

I ask all Rotarians to reflect on the past, assess the present and plan for the future to make sure our clubs and the service we provide, be relevant for today. The district has 51 clubs and I congratulate the Whakatane and Whakatane West Rotary Clubs for amalgamating last Friday and forming the new Rotary Club of Whakatane as a start to the new Rotary year.

Elizabeth and I have very much enjoyed the invitation and hospitality of many clubs over the past couple of weeks and now look forward to our official visit to clubs over the next four months. From what we have seen so far, there is a great range of projects and programmes being supported but it is all of us who are all good like minded people who are achieving great things and are having fun.

Keep up the good work and together we can “Be the Inspiration”.

For this year, I ask you to:
