Big THANKS to the very generous clubs in our District who swiftly responded with cash contributions to the Kaikoura Earthquake Relief fund.

After the devastating earthquake on Monday 14 November, it was clear many people’s lives would be displaced for at least a period of time and the best immediate aid was cash which could be applied to specific needs.

Rotarians in District 9930 didn’t hesitate to offer assistance to those less fortunate living in the damaged part of the country.

To get the ball rolling, the District Administration immediately pledged $10,000 to RNZWCS (Rotary New Zealand World Community Services) with the money to be solely deployed towards this disaster.  Further, clubs were encouraged to send their contributions to the District to firstly reimburse the advance of $10,000

The good news is the temporary advance has been repaid and an additional sum of over $4,000 is now being sent for earthquake aid purposes.  This means collective contributions from our District thus far exceed $14,000.

In expressing his sincere thanks to everyone, our District Governor Keith Owens said this is fantastic assistance to people who don’t live too far away from us – an excellent demonstration of Rotary Serving Humanity
