This month I want to highlight two of these challenges - Days for Girls and Plant a Tree.

APRIL is MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH MONTH

This could not be a more appropriate month to support DAYS FOR GIRLS.  For just $20 you would be supporting a girl going through puberty.  Days for Girls kits are being made right here in our District and then distribute when and where needed around the world.

At this year’s District Conference I am delighted to have Celeste Mergens, founder, and CEO for Days for Girls International, speak to us about this remarkable programme.
Celeste founded the organisation to support maturing young women who were dropping out of school during their menstrual cycle.  She saw the need and acted on it, giving girls dignity and to help break the poverty cycle through simple little kits.  With each ‘kit’ lasting up to three years and costing about NZ$20 per girls, this is less than or NZ$7 per year to Make a Difference.  If you want to contribute to this worthy cause go to our District Website http://rotary9930.org/page/international-days-for-girls for more details.

This programme also enhances Rotary’s six Areas of Focus through Fighting Disease; Clean Water, Sanitation and Hygiene; Maternal Health; Education, Growing Local Communities and Promoting Peace.

PLANT A TREE FOR EACH ROTARIAN
April 22nd is also Earth Day.
The first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, is considered to be the birthday of the modern environmental protection movement. It is said that nowadays more than one billion people worldwide take part in activities on Earth Day, making it the world's most widely observed secular (non-religious) holiday.  Earth Day has been celebrated globally every year on April 22 since 1990.
President Ian challenged Club’s to plant a tree for each of its members by Earth Day - 22nd April 2018.  With over 1.2 million Rotarians, imagine the huge impact 1.2 million new trees could have not only to our environment, to the people and our planet and Rotary be recognised for Making A Difference.
Let’s get planting!

DISTRICT CONFERENCE – Our District’s annual ‘event’ is only seven weeks away.   This is a great opportunity to share ideas, get ideas and have fun.

DISTRICT TRAINING ASSEMBLY - Saturday 5 May 2018, Taupo (venue still to be advised)

As we continue to up-skill incoming Club leaders, don't forget District9930 Training Assembly is also available for all Rotarians.

District Training is about increasing your understanding of the wide range of Rotary programmes and activities and providing an awareness of what’s happening across Rotary.

“But I’m new to Rotary and not an office holder in the incoming Rotary year”….. There’s always so much more to learn about Rotary than what you see and hear in your club!

And finally, have you checked out our District Website?  Click on this link - http://rotary9930.org/ where you can find everything you need to know about Rotary in our District, what some other Clubs are doing, how you can get more involved and so much more.

Thank you for your continued support and ensuring Rotary is Making a Difference.
