Hello, I am a 19-year-old second year nursing student from Hamilton.

I am going to Nepal for three weeks in January 2019 to volunteer in both a hospital and a children's home in Pokhara. This will be an amazing opportunity for me to help those in need and make a difference in the lives of impoverished children.

I am caring, empathetic, hardworking and can't wait to do what I can to help the people in Nepal while also experiencing a new culture and a less privileged way of living.

Do you offer any scholarships, sponsoring, or funding for volunteer work like this?
Kind regards, Crystal Singleton crs1599@gmail.com

Volunteering abroad is something I have always wanted to do and I have finally decided to go next year with Love Volunteers! During my first week I will be working alongside nurses and doctors in a busy city hospital, and for my next two weeks I will be working with impoverished children in Pokhara.

Due to poverty and low living standards, many children in Pokhara are left uncared for on the streets. Volunteers are needed to give these children care, attention and companionship, as well as providing them with basic education. This will be an incredibly rewarding experience, making a difference in the lives of underprivileged children.

The medical project will be a real eye-opener to the contrast in health care between New Zealand and other less privileged countries. It will be an amazing opportunity to further develop my skills and knowledge of nursing and to work with people from different cultures.

As I am a full-time student nurse I need some assistance to reach the financial requirements of this project. Love Volunteers offers nonprofit program fees so every cent of the fees will be going straight to the people and organisations in Nepal. My costs include registration and program fees which pay for accommodation, food, orientation, transport, in-country support staff, and pre/post-placement support from Love Volunteers, as well as other costs including flights, visa, insurance, and vaccinations, so any help at all will be really appreciated.

This will be the most rewarding, worthwhile experience for me, not only allowing me to help those in need, but also to meet other volunteers from around the world and to immerse myself in a new culture.

The money raised will go towards the program fees for this project. These fees are non-profit so every cent is going directly to the local organisations and people in Nepal. Any additional funds will be used to assist with extra travel costs and fees.
