D9930 District Governor Bill Robinson is promoting the Usborne Illustrated Dictionaries as he and his wife Deb visit all the clubs in the district.

The original project was aimed at providing year 4 students in low decile schools in our district with their own dictionaries.

The dictionary is seen as a gift to each child from Rotary.
The success of the project is proven with over 30,000 dictionaries presented to students in D9930 schools to date.

Delightful illustrations and clear definitions combine to make this the ideal first dictionary for young children.

Words are shown in context to help children understand how they are used, and colourful alphabet strips along the edges of the pages aid navigation.

There's also user-friendly information on how to use a dictionary, simple explanations of word classes, and plenty of tips on grammar and spelling.

For nine years, the programme has been coordinated by Les Cresswell. Grateful thanks are expressed by Les to all those who have helped in this success, especially McFall Fuels, and Greerton Second Hand, who supplied storage facilities and distribution to clubs, and Mainfreight who provided transport from the Auckland storage depot.

The new coordinator is Judith Bennett, Putaruru Rotary Club, email mjbennett@xtra.co.nz or phone 027 2854915

Books are $10.00 to the clubs.
