How many times have you stopped at a café for a cup of coffee without giving a thought to the cost?  Or if not a coffee perhaps it was a glass of wine, or a beer.  Or maybe you turned on the TV to watch the rugby without giving a thought to the cost of that SKY channel.  How many $4 decisions do you make each week that, like a cup of coffee, provide only a few minutes of personal pleasure?

What if you could do your part to improve health, support education, alleviate poverty, and advance global understanding in the world with the same ease as when you spend about $4 for a Flat White?  And unlike the fleeting pleasure of a coffee, these are changes that can last a lifetime.  The Rotary Club of Maketu, with support of the D9930 Rotary Foundation Committee, have created an easy way for every Rotarian in every club to support the Foundation.

Read on … every club in D9930 can participate in this unique programme.   You’ll want your club to get invovled!
If you can afford a Flat White a week, or some other simple personal luxury, you can afford to support The Rotary Foundation which, for over a hundred years, has made it possible for Rotarians to collectively enrich the world.

The “Flat White a Week” programme is simple.  Maketu Rotary will provide a coffee mug for every member in every club.  All that clubs have to do is to agree to participate in the programme. Rotarians are asked to toss $4 a week into the mug, probably from loose pocket change  …  just the cost of “A Flat White a Week”.  The first $12 collected goes to cover the cost of the mug, and then every subsequent dollar collected goes to the Rotary Foundation.  That can add up to $200 a year!  How fantastic is that!  How simple and easy is that!

Maketu Rotary isn’t making a cent from this project.  It’s just the club’s way of supporting the Rotary Foundation.

The “Flat White a Week” programme is being presented to every club in our district.  A sample coffee mug has been created for every club and is being delivered by the Assistant Governor’s to club presidents.  Each club is encouraged to get behind this approach.

The initial response has been great.  The “Flat White a Week” approach has the full support of our District Governor, Keith Owens and the district Foundation Committee.   Maketu, Papamoa, Huntly, Te Puke and Te Kuiti Rotary Clubs are already on-board.  Ahuriri,  Whakatane, and Thames have presented the “Flat White a Week” scheme to their clubs.   Don’t delay!

Just think what could be achieved if every club said YES, not only in this 100th Anniversary year for the Foundation, but as an easy and effective way to support the foundation every year.
