Pictured our new District Governor Keith Owens having just received the chain of office from Past District Governor Mike Smith.

Is that a smile of anticipation on Keith’s face.

150 members of our district gathered at the Tauranga Citizens Club to wish Keith and Elaine Owens a great year while celebrating another hugely successful year for PDG Mike Smith and Helen as he handed over the chain of office.  Mike spoke of the accomplishments that had been achieved during his year and thanked his Assistant Governors, District Chairs and their committees and Club Presidents for the efforts that had gone into making it all worthwhile. Mike finished his year with the award of three Paul Harris Fellows to Tupps Wright, Russell Turner and Tauranga Te Papa’s own Janice Miller.

While the big event for the district may well have been Keith’s inauguration as DG, Keith’s home club Tauranga Te Papa Rotary, was also celebrating the changing of the guard with our new president Evan Turbott and Rosemary taking the reins from Andrew von Dadelszen and Maree.

By the look on Andrew’s face, the Past President’s badge doesn’t weight as much as the chain of office he’s just handed over to Evan.

Andrew took us back to the beginning of his year where he employed a strategist to get to the bottom of what our club really wanted from Rotary and a number of changes have been implemented throughout the year to accommodate the wish list presented by our members.

Andrew completed his year with the awarding of two Paul Harris Fellows to Barry Benton (second Sapphire pin) and Warwick Jessop.

The theme for the day was mid-winter Christmas and while the weather didn’t really play its part (19 degrees and sunny) the Citizens Club caterers certainly did with a great Christmas Dinner for us all.

Photos from the day will be available in the photo section of the website by the end of the week. Should anyone want a full render photo, please make you request (including the image number) to jockmcintyre@vodafone.co.nz
