Our District Governor's October Message

October is a significant month in the Rotary Calendar.

The 24th of October is World Polio Day, a time for Rotarians to raise awareness in our communities about our commitment to eradicate this devastating disease. Wild poliovirus still paralyses children in Afghanistan and Pakistan with over 100 cases reported in the past year. Take the time to learn more about Rotary’s efforts and participate in many events that Clubs in your local area are organising, including the Polio Now movie nights. Please remember to make donations in the memory of Sir Clem Renouf, who did so much to initiate Rotary’s involvement.

October is also designated as Economic and Community Development Month when Rotary throws the spotlight on to growing local economies to provide opportunities for employment, training and social services to reduce poverty. Our Global Grants through The Rotary Foundation provide the resources to undertake projects that improve the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves. By providing equipment and vocational training we supply the resources to strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women in impoverished countries.
