It is very appropriate that this month’s theme is Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. With the worldwide spread of the Covid19 virus, all clubs can play their part by making sure that their communities are prepared to react to an outbreak in their area. Can your club offer to be a contact point in your area for information, health care services, support, and resources? Take the initiative and talk to your local council and offer your services.
This year’s theme as you know is “Rotary Connects the World.”  The last month has seen two visits from groups of overseas Rotarians to our District. The first was from District 1180 in the UK. Thank you especially to Putaruru, Wairoa, and Kawerau – three of our smallest clubs – Rototuna – one of our newest  - and Taradale. Hats off to the 3 small clubs because hosting this group must have involved every member of your club. The “Can Do” attitude this displayed was outstanding and something that some of our larger clubs could take note of.

The second group was from District 3131 in India who organized a Car Rally from Paihia to Invercargill – visiting Rotorua and Taupo over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd February. Again, thank you to our newest club – Rotorua Passport and to Taupo Club for hosting this group.

These visits for me made a fantastic connection between this year’s theme and that of next year’s “Rotary Opens Opportunities.”  International friendships have been created that will create possible opportunities in the future.

Finally, can I please urge you to register for the District Conference, if you have not already done so. Registrations are now open; we have a high calibre of speakers lined up as well as time for fun and fellowship. Details of the conference can be found at  https://www.9930conference.org/
