This month is “Basic Education and Literacy” month.
Deb and I have had a great month visiting 21 clubs.
Hectic but very enjoyable, so we would like to thank those clubs for your hospitality. It has been great to see the different ways meetings are run and hear of the great work being done. Deb and I will continue to visit clubs in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty this month, but we are looking forward to visiting Hawkes Bay starting the 2nd of October.
This month is “Basic Education and Literacy” month.
I encourage those clubs that don’t utilise the programme of Dictionaries in Schools to give it a go. Not only do they give children something to read but help them with their spelling and maybe get them off the keyboards. Past International President Bill Boyd and his wife set up a trust to print and distribute the Usborne Dictionaries. We have a supply in Putaruru, so I encourage you to contact Judith Bennett of Putaruru Club or click on the following link to get a request form for dictionaries.
We have also heard of members going into schools to help children with reading work.
I had a request from a member the other day to send an email out to you all, so instead thought I would include it in my introduction.
Part of Rotary is having fun and this group certainly would be doing that.
“Do you ride a Motorcycle?
The New Zealand chapter of International Fellowship of Motorcycling Rotarians (IFMR) is looking for those in Aotearoa who ride motorcycles and are keen to join the IFMR in New Zealand.
The aim is to bring together NZ motorcycle riders for fellowship, group rides and to support international visitors with admin, planning routes and bike hire.
If you are interested, please contact:
Neville Auton
Immediate past President
Rotary Club of Dunedin South.
So, all you bike riders out there please contact Neville. I can see a group riding from Cape Reinga to Bluff raising money for a good cause.
Recently you would have had plenty of emails from our Regionalisation team plus various Webinars and ZOOM meetings. I hope you all have faith in those informing you and making decisions. As I have been quoting Jim Bolger, “Just let it happen, but don’t let it divide us”.
You will get updated emails on the 3rd Tuesday of every month.
Keep up the good work and we hope to catch you in your patch again soon.
