Our Meeting on Monday Evening was great, our Speaker was Jeremy Scott and he spoke of the 2 ½ years he spent cycling from England to New Zealand.

His presentation was spoken and also a visual slideshow that was great. He mentioned it was a life changing period and he had some very profound moments with people and places. Proceeds from his trip to the British, Australian and New Zealand Foundations.

In 1977 Jeremy underwent heart surgery in Auckland at the age of 4 years to repair a hole in the heart which in turn allowed him to live an active and healthy life.
It was 34 years after that operation by Sir Brian Barrett-Boyes that Jeremy decided to quit his job in London and bike home to New Zealand. In the 2 ½ years he biked through 29 countries doing 52,000 kms.

Jeremy left England 5th October 2011 and arrived in in Auckland on 25th may 2014.

Some of the things he encountered included, minus 20-degree temperatures in Turkey, 50 plus temperatures and sandstorms in China, drug dealers in Iran, bears in Japan, wild dogs in Eastern Turkey and being robbed in Viet Nam.

When he was home he was looking for another challenge and that is when he decided to publish a book of his journey. This he did and called it “The long Road from a Broken Heart”. The Heart Foundation receives 10% from the sale of his books. Next on his list is to bike from the top of Alaska to the bottom of Argentina
