Maketu Rotary has launched an amazing raffle just in time for Christmas.

For just $2, punters go into a draw to win a beautiful trailer filled with groceries and lots of other goodies donated by local a businesses.

The Maketu club's raffle is similar to trailer raffles that are conducted by other clubs in our district and inspired by the example of Ahuriri Rotary several years ago.  It's a great example of the way Rotarians inspire each other.

The payoff from this event comes on several levels.

The most obvious of course is the money it raises for the club's community service projects.  Maketu Rotary expects to raise $10-12k from this raffle.  But beyond that is the exposure of Rotary to the community.

Day after day, Maketu Rotarians greet people with a smile at the New World Market.  They chat, talk about how the club serves the community, create a positive awareness of Rotary, and  promote service to the community in whatever form it takes.  And, the raffle engages the total club.  Virtually every member gets involved, and to a person, the response is the same... "it's fun"

And, the raffle builds partnerships with the business community.  Maketu's trailer raffle has the support of Te Puke - New World Market as it's  primary sponsor, and there are 12 other businesses who have contributed to the effort.  It's a win-win for everyone.

In a season of giving, this trailer raffle reminds everyone that the greatest gift is the gift of service.
