David Hills introduced our International Rotary Exchange Student,

Jelle Postma from The Netherlands who has been in New Zealand for 6 weeks.

Jelle turned 16 a few days after arriving in New Zealand.  He is from Heiloo in the North of the country. The family consists of Mum and Dad and 2 sisters; one aged 20 and the other 18. Both sisters have been Rotary Exchange students and the family has had Rotary Exchange students stay with them.  Jelle’s father is a Rotarian and is self-employed having worked earlier in his career for Shell.

Jelle enjoys going to the beach, playing and watching football, walking and tramping.  He will start senior school when he goes home.

He purposely chose to come to New Zealand, it was number 1 on his list of countries to come to, and has never been so far away from home!  He loves it here and is looking forward to ‘the best year of his life’.

His older sister went to Brazil and the younger to Ecuador.  He came here to become fluent in English and hopes to have a different view of the world than he had last year. He hopes for an experience that will last a lifetime.

Jelle left The Netherlands in July and started school 6 days after arriving in Napier.   His first day at Napier Boys High School was pretty strange, the school uniform and all the boys speaking quickly.
He has been hiking on NZ tracks, seen rain and snow, been to Waikaremoana (with Katherine), diving, caving, kayaking – his first experiences have been very good.  He likes that weather.  Everyone drives on the left!!!!!!

Jelle thanked Rotary for hosting him for the year and presented Klaus, our Club President, with a Rotary Banner from Heiloo.
