Rotary Whakatane Sunrise, founded in 2014, is the youngest of three Rotary clubs in Whakatane and five in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
Our Club prides itself on our youthful (metaphorically speaking) and energetic culture. As the only Eastern Bay Rotary club to meet for breakfast our members have often met, done our Rotary business, and headed off to work while more traditional Rotarians are reaching sleepily to turn off their alarm clocks! That said, we are delighted to have a very friendly and cooperative relationship with our sister clubs, Rotary Whakatane and Rotary Whakatane West.
We meet on Wednesday mornings at the presbyteries hall on Landing Road in suburban Whakatane.
Projects during our short history have included an open day at Whakatane Airport to mark the new Air Chathams service, a garden ramble, a motel opening, and support for a highly successful Interact Club.
Our current project "Sunshine and Canvas" is the brainchild of a number of our members who are deeply interested in art.
The rest of us are finding this exposure to the giddy world of culture interesting and absorbing, a bit of a stretch for some who come from more prosaic backgrounds, but we are learning a lot. We are determined to make the event a real success and a regular feature of the art calendar.
