We are a small club in number but have great enthusiasm, a high commitment to attendance and to being involved as Rotarians in our community. Historically, our club is 45 years old, having been chartered in 1970.
Over the years we have raised funds for many different causes. More recently our fundraising has been focused on Hospice, Child Cancer, Plunket, the Asthma Foundation, as well as our international Rotary goal – the eradication of polio.
Our service projects have included assisting with the breakfast programme at Sunset Primary School, marshalling annually at the Rotorua Marathon, as well as marshalling at a number of large mountain bike events held locally. We have been involved with youth development by participating in Rotary International Youth Exchange and RYPEN.
Currently we are part of the inaugural Rotorua Charity Luncheon fundraising event. This exciting fundraising opportunity is a joint venture in which we are working with three other Rotary clubs in Rotorua to raise a very significant amount of money to assist our local charities who do so much for our community.
We invite a wide range of interesting and high quality speakers from charity leaders, to CEO’s to Coffin Club members. We also enjoy exceptionally good presentations from within our club on a variety of topics from murder to distant travel and back to truffle growing and local history.
Our club pays visits to other Rotary clubs to share in special events, fundraising, or just for fellowship. From time to time our programme includes vocational visits linking up with a business or an organisation, for example the Fire Service Training Division, and the Comvita factory in Paengaroa.
We are very keen to welcome newcomers and are known for our hospitality and sense of humour.
